You are requested to review the guidelines thoroughly before submitting your work to ensure efficient review and publication process.
- Author: A High school/undergraduate student. In case more than one student has contributed to the work, they must be listed in order of the highest to the lowest contribution. If the students have contributed equally, the order must follow the alphabetical order in the authors’ first name. In case of multiple authors, the title page must specify the specific contribution of each author.
- The student(s) must be the sole author(s) of the work. If at any point in the review process we discover that your submission is not an original work, it will be rejected and the author(s) will not be allowed to submit again to Philosophize Direct. In case of multiple authors, only one author has to register and submit the work. This author is known as the corresponding author and the same must be specified on the title page.
- The work must not have been published previously.
- The submission needs to be in the English language. If you have written it in any other language, you must associate with an expert in English for translation of the work. Please note that the translator is not an author on the paper and such translation must be specified under the acknowledgement section only.
- We are open to various forms of expression in philosophy from young explorers: Carefully review the requirement for each type of work you can submit to the journal:
Research Article
- There must be an abstract of 150-200 words, with 3-5 keywords at the bottom that describe the main topics to bring ease of searchability.
- Ensure that the research article is between 3500 to 5000 words excluding references, endnotes, and figure description.
- Arrange the manuscript with following sections: abstract, introduction, theory, findings, discussions, conclusion and references.
- Figures and tables may be used. Each figure and table must have a title on the top and a short description with source at the bottom. Figure must be of high quality and inserted within the text.
- Ensure the text is grammatically sound. Tip: Read your submission carefully for spellings and statement structure before submitting it.
- The complete set of resources used must be listed at the end (references) and cited within the manuscript (in-text citation). They must be formatted and adjusted as per the required citation style (APA/Harvard).
Essay
- There must be an abstract of 150-200 words, with 3-5 keywords at the bottom that describe the main topics to bring ease of searchability.
- Ensure that the essay is within the specified word count of 2500-3500 words excluding references and endnotes.
- The format and structure entails an introduction, a body, a conclusion and references. The introduction must include the main arguments, thesis and the structural outline of the essay. The body might develop into clear and coherent paragraphs that contribute to the larger ideas and arguments the essay is based on. The conclusion must summarize the main ideas and must include the significance of the findings.
- All sources must be cited correctly as per the citation style (APA/Harvard)
- If figures and tables are used, they must support the arguments presented in the essay. They should be of a high quality and labeled clearly.
- Endnotes can be used for citations and additional commentaries or ideas.
Book Review
- Ensure that the book review is within the word limit of 2000 words excluding references and endnotes.
- The format and structure must include an introduction, a summary of the book, the analysis by the author, a contextualization/synthesis of ideas and finally, a conclusion.
- The introduction must include the significance of the review. It must summarize the main themes, plots and objectives of the book. The analysis must be supported with examples through citations. The conclusion must summarize the overall argument being presented in the book review and include final thoughts.
- A brief author biography must be included at the end.
- Supplementary readings and other materials can be used where required.
- The author must present a concise and focused review.
- The submission should have a reference list at the end with a consistent referencing style, Harvard (check here) or APA (check here). Endnotes are accepted, footnotes are not acceptable. Proper intext citations must be included as numerals in brackets (check here).
- Formatting the document:
- Only Word docs are accepted. Do not send in google docs or apple pages or PDFs etc.
- Font style and size: Times New Roman, 12
- Spacing: 1.5 spacing between lines. Paragraph starts with right indentation.
- Style for headings: Left and bold for primary headings; left, bold, and italics for subheadings.

- Manuscript: Author’sfullname_Aticle’s title
- Example: If author’s name is Leah Jones and the title of their article is The philosophy conundrum, then file name for title page must be: Leah Jones_The Philosophy Conandrum_Title Page.dox; and file name for manuscript must be: Leah Jones_The Philosophy Conandrum.dox

You will be uploading two documents:- Title page: This page will have the title of your work, name of the author, school, email id, grade, acknowledgement, contribution (in case of more than 1 author). Sample
- Manuscript page: This document will have your original work. Do not add any identifying details on this document, as the journal follows a double blind review process.
